West Sussex Catch Report - 9th November 2025
Report by David Lewis
Good evening, for the time of year the fishing remains quite good with plenty for the anglers to target locally with good catches of Bass, Congers and a few Rays, plus there are lots of other species regularly keeping the rod tips rattling so why not get out and try your luck.
Here are Worthing high tides times for the week ahead:
- Monday 10th November: 02:09 (5.8m), 14:25 (5.6m)
- Tuesday 11th November: 03:08 (5.5m), 15:27 (5.2m)
- Wednesday 12th November: 04:13 (5.1m) 16:39 (4.8m)
- Thursday 13th November: 05:25 (4.9m), 17:59 (4.6m)
- Friday 14th November: 06:41 (5.0m), 19:12 (4.7m)
- Saturday 15th November: 07:42 (5.2m), 20:07 (5.0m)
Weather during the past week has been breezy, plenty of cloud and rain and the seas have been rough easing to choppy and despite the big tides the water clarity has been slow to improve although it briefly cleared at some venues Saturday. The winds are predicted to increase next week and with small tides the sea should remain coloured in choppy conditions.
Chances are if you have fished recently, you would have caught a Dogfish as this species has been prolific lately and lots have been caught from Worthing Pier. They will be caught to most baits whilst the water is dirty and especially during darkness and there is a slight chance the odd Bull Huss could make an appearance.
Although plenty of Congers have been caught this week the vast majority seem to be straps with most fish in the 3 to 6lb range, Brighton Marina is the exception with some superb fish to over 21lb caught there this weekend and there is a realistic possibility that bigger fish could be caught. Remember to bring a drop net and use suitable tackle when targeting them from Worthing Pier, Shoreham Harbour and Brighton Marina and they are just as likely to be caught in daylight as well as darkness when the water is coloured and choppy. Whiting can work well as bait both dead and alive.
Yet more good numbers of sizable Bass caught from various spots including Worthing Pier; local beaches and the rivers have been producing some good fish in amongst plenty of smaller fish. Bass to 5lb are being reported with majority in the 2 to 3lb region. If you can find water with any clarity lures could prove worthwhile whereas baits will work best in coloured seas and even live baiting a Whiting could account for a few large Bass.
Small Eyed Rays seem to be becoming more frequently caught this week mainly from Brighton with odd ones from Shoreham and Pagham. Thornback Rays have shown from usual spots at Hove and Bognor, and the occasional Undulate Ray has also made an appearance.
Codling do seem scarce now but are still a possible catch locally and one was caught from Worthing Pier Tuesday evening during a match fished in darkness. Whilst the water is coloured Codling could appear both during the day or at night with worm baits or squid usually picking out the odd fish.
Usually at this time of year Whiting would be dominating the local catches but so far although a few have been caught they are yet to show in any numbers. The likelihood is they will soon turn up in vast numbers, but they can make an excellent live bait for targeting Congers and some large Bass which seem to be present when Whiting turns up.
The flatfish fishing locally is on the slow side mainly because of the recent sea conditions not being ideal but Sole, Plaice, Flounders and Dabs are all possible catches. Again, the local rivers are not producing many Flounders but still worth trying for in darkness and they usually more frequently caught late November and December when the water is colder and calm.
Other species featuring in catches locally include Silver Eels, mainly from East Preston and Shoreham Harbour on worm baits, the occasional Smoothound although they are small, plus some decent sized Pouting have shown. At the Marina Saturday when the water clarity improved briefly a few Squid, Bream and Wrasse were also being caught.
