West Sussex Catch Report - 2nd November 2025
Report by David Lewis
Good evening, well done to the usual anglers venturing out braving the weather and pleasingly they seem to be rewarded with some decent catches locally and despite the wind, this is the time of year where some of the larger species can be found within casting distance. There still are plenty of other smaller fish to target and with bigger tides for the week ahead hopefully the good fishing should continue so why not get the rods out and give it a try.
Here are Worthing high tides times for the week ahead:
- Monday 3rd November: 08:58 (5.8m), 21:17 (5.9m)
- Tuesday 4th November: 09:42 (6.2m), 22:01 (6.2m)
- Wednesday 5th November: 10:25 (6.4m) 22:46 (6.3m)
- Thursday 6th November: 11:10 (6.5m), 23:34 (6.4m)
- Friday 7th November: 11:55 (6.5m)
- Saturday 8th November: 00:24 (6.3m), 12:42 (6.3m)
The weather this week has had plenty of wind and rain with the occasional cloudy day and the sea has been choppy and coloured. Brisk winds are predicted to continue for most of next week.
Anglers wishing to target Congers will find Worthing Pier, Shoreham Harbour and Brighton Marina all likely to offer a good chance of big Eels with fish to over 30lb a realistic possibility of being hooked and usually lost at this time of year. Remember to bring a drop net and use suitable tackle when targeting them and they are just as likely to be caught in daylight as well as darkness when the water is coloured and choppy. Whiting can work well as bait both dead and alive.
Another week where conditions have been good for Bass and there have been numerous fish to around 5lb locally with the chance of bigger Bass likely to appear within the next few weeks. Realistically they can show throughout the region and beaches can produce more fish when the water is shallow with a surf running whereas structures mean its easier to live bait. Worthing Pier and Shoreham arm will offer more comfortable fishing in brisk winds and have seen a few Bass show recently.
There has been a mixture of Rays showing with Small Eyed making an appearance as well as a few Thornbacks and Undulates. Undulate Rays could show randomly anywhere in Sussex whereas Thornbacks are more commonly caught in East Sussex although West does see a few caught from Bognor, Pagham and Selsey.
Most of the Codling which have been caught lately seem to be from either Shoreham arm or beaches but there are not many showing but they can be caught anywhere randomly locally with worm baits and squid worth using.
Dogfish will be about in numbers with the present conditions and have been caught throughout the region both during the day and at night as the water is coloured and there is chance of the odd Bull Huss. A few Silver Eels have been caught from the beaches and rivers to worm baits, and some big Pouting are also likely.
Whiting numbers should increase with better fish more often showing first before being replaced by pins towards the end of the year. Whiting can make an excellent live bait for targeting Congers and some large Bass.
Because of the recent sea conditions, it has not been ideal for targeting flatfish but when the sea state is reasonably calm expect Sole, Plaice, Flounders and Dabs to be possible catches. The rivers at present are not producing many Flounders but still worth trying for in darkness and they can turn up late November and December more frequently.
