West Sussex Catch Report - 21st June 2026

Good evening, luckily Sussex is known for offering a vast number of species worth targeting during the summer months and this past weeks fishing catch reports prove this with a good variety of bigger species such as Hounds and Rays, whilst the usual summer species have returned so there is plenty to target both big and small and enough to keep the rod tips rattling and with more good weather predicted for the week ahead why not get out and give it a try. 

Here are Worthing high tides times for the week ahead:

• Monday 22nd June: 05:41 (5.1m), 18:13 (5.3m)
• Tuesday 23rd June: 06:38 (4.9m), 19:10 (5.1m)
• Wednesday 24th June: 07:39 (4.7m), 20:08 (5.0m) 
• Thursday 25th June: 08:38 (4.7m), 21:03 (5.0m)
• Friday 26th June:  09:33 (4.8m), 21:54 (5.1m)
• Saturday 27th June: 10:23 (5.0m), 22:39 (5.3m)

The weather certainly improved this week with winds easing along with plenty of sunshine with temperatures rising by the day. The water is now very clear after being calm for most of the week. 

With ideal conditions for Stingrays they have been featuring in catches again with fish recently caught from beaches including Goring, Ferring and East Preston with fish to 20lb landed although there are plenty of small fish too. They are also likely further west with Stingers also likely to be at Climping through to Selsey. Undulates and Thornbacks are still showing with darkness offering the best chance of catching one with venues worth trying including Hove, Bognor and Pagham.

Smoothounds turned up in numbers recently especially when the water held some colour but as the week has gone on and the water clears the best Hound fishing will be mostly during darkness although Brighton Marina has seen some good fish caught in the daytime this weekend. Most venues could produce Hounds at night especially Bracklesham, Selsey, East Preston, Eastbourne and Bognor.  

Tope will certainly be worth targeting during the warm weather and settled conditions and usual venues at Selsey, Bracklesham and Witterings may see fish to around 40lb show plus other venues in Hampshire may also be worth travelling to. 

The clearing and calm seas meant most of the usual summer species made a return and some venues especially Brighton Marina have seen good numbers of species reported. Some quality Wrasse to over 4lb have been caught, Scad have made their appearance at night, the occasional Mackerel shoals have turned up plus odd fish such as Bream, Gurnards, Pollock and Garfish. At the start of last week whilst the water was dirty there were a few Whiting’s caught and Tony Kirrage even caught a surprise 3lb plus Codling from Eastbourne. Other fish occasionally caught include Dogfish, Silver Eels and Pout. Mullet have shown occasionally from Kingston Beach to red rag, and the odd fish should show from the Burrells and Harbour plus Tide Mills is always known to hold good numbers of Goldies. Strap Congers will be caught throughout the region mainly during darkness with the odd bigger fish a possibility.  

If the water stays clear for long enough lure fishing for Bass could be worthwhile especially at dawn and dusk. Baits have accounted for plenty of fish with crab picking out the better sized fish.  Live baiting can be successful using bait which are present in numbers where you are fishing such as a live Mackerel or Smelt etc. 

Generally, flatfish will be caught to worm baits with Shoreham to Brighton the most reliable venues producing Plaice, Flounders, Sole and odd Dabs.
