West Sussex Catch Report - 14th June 2026

Good evening, another week where for the most part the weather has been poor, but the catches have been very good with a decent variety of species showing and as often these conditions do bring some of the larger fish inshore within casting distance. With a vast improvement regarding the weather forecast predicted for next week plus some good fishing on offer what better reasons are needed for getting the rods out and giving it ago.

Here are Worthing high tides times for the week ahead:

• Monday 15th June: 11:57 (6.0m)
• Tuesday 16th June: 00:16 (6.1m), 12:55 (6.1m)
• Wednesday 17th June: 01:11 (6.1m), 13:54 (6.1m) 
• Thursday 18th June: 02:07 (6.1m), 14:48 (6.1m)
• Friday 19th June:  03:03 (5.9m), 15:40 (6.0m)
• Saturday 20th June: 03:56 (5.7m), 16:30 (5.8m)

The past week has seen brisk south westerly winds along with plenty of cloud and rain although the weekend saw an improvement with the sun making an appearance. The sea has been choppy and coloured all week, easing over the weekend. 

Due to the conditions beaches have been challenging so most anglers have fished from structures such as Worthing Pier and Shoreham Harbour and have found a variety of the bigger species which can be caught locally such as Smoothounds, Bass, Congers, and Rays.

Worthing Pier has seen reasonable numbers of Undulates Rays caught last week which is a promising sign as they had not really shown bar the odd fish in last couple of years. Undulates are still frequently caught from Bognor, Pagham and Selsey along with the odd Thornback. Stingrays should be caught again as more anglers head to the beaches with venues from Goring to Selsey possibly producing the odd Stinger. 

It’s the time of year when Smoothounds start showing in big packs and with even larger fish appearing during the next month or so. Anywhere in West Sussex can produce fish in the right conditions although Selsey and Bracklesham are most reliable venues for frequent catches. Small Spider Crabs are peeling and Smoothounds are usually not too far away. Worthing Pier has seen some tides when it has been a fish a cast with biggest fish close to 15lb. 

Tope have shown during the last fortnight with fish to 40lb plus caught and when conditions are suitable Selsey, Bracklesham, Witterings, are all venues worth targeting them plus venues in Hampshire have seen some reported and worth a trip with fish caught in day and at night. 

Bass have been caught to baits from most venues but in greater numbers from the shore with anglers fishing baits in running surf with low tide often seeing more fish caught than over high tide. Fish to around 7lb have been reported with a good number of sizable fish around the 4lb mark caught. Lure fishing will be worthwhile once the sea calms and clears out as clarity is not good presently. 

Other fish caught locally include Dogfish, small Bull Huss, a few Silver Eels and some Pout and even a surprise Whiting. 

Like the previous week due to winds and coloured seas the usual smaller summer species have not featured in catches recently but will return once the sea calms and the water clarity improves. Once this occurs Black Bream, Gilt Head Bream, Gurnards, Mackerel, Mullet, Garfish all likely to figure in catches locally. 

Flatfish will be caught to worm baits with Shoreham to Brighton producing Plaice, Flounders, Sole and Dabs with settled seas seeing better catches. Sole numbers should increase and are usually caught in darkness though can be caught in daytime when the water is dirty. 

Congers of various sizes have been caught throughout the week with the majority being straps but there are still the occasional bigger fish turning up. Structures such as the Marina, Harbour and Pier are all worth trying when the sea is coloured and choppy.
