West Sussex Catch Report - 28th June 2026

Good evening, the fishing locally has been challenging during the past week mainly due to the weather with very hot days and light winds meaning less anglers have ventured out and therefore producing less reports but those trying are still finding a few fish and a wide range of species and with a more favourable weather forecast for the forthcoming week hopefully the fishing should improve so why not get the rods out and give it a try. 

Here are Worthing high tides times for the week ahead:

• Monday 29th June: 11:51 (5.4m)
• Tuesday 30th June: 00:00 (5.5m), 12:31 (5.5m)
• Wednesday 1st July: 00:38 (5.5m), 13:08 (5.6m) 
• Thursday 2nd July: 01:14 (5.6m), 13:44 (5.6m)
• Friday 3rd July:  01:48 (5.6m), 14:19 (5.7m)
• Saturday 4th July: 02:26 (5.5m), 14:57 (5.6m)

For the majority of last week, it was hot and sunny with light winds and the occasional thunderstorm in the evenings. The temperatures have dropped during the weekend with brisk winds which may slightly colour the water up inshore. Next week cooler temperatures and a breeze are expected most days. The sea clarity was very good during the week due to being flat calm.  

Firstly, some good news after months of waiting patiently anglers can now fish from the Landing Stage on Worthing Pier which has finally reopened. 

Smoothound catches have slowed down mainly due to the sea conditions and weather but evening tides this week should some fish with most frequent catches made from venues such as Bracklesham, Selsey, Shoreham and there have been a few fish turning up at Brighton Marina drawn in by the numbers of peeling spider crabs inshore. 

Tope could be a possible catch from venues in the west such as Selsey, Bracklesham and Witterings. 

Black Bream have returned in numbers but unfortunately the vast majority seem to be small fish. There are still the occasional better sized fish reported from Brighton Marina, Shoreham and Selsey. Scad can be caught from Brighton Marina in darkness with the odd Mackerel possible on the daytime tides. The Marina has also seen some good-sized Wrasse caught lately with best fish of around 4lb. 

Mullet have been seen cruising in the shallows from local beaches and in the rivers and a few Goldies have been caught from Shoreham and Tide Mills at Newhaven to red rag baits. Thin and Thick lips can be targeted from the rivers or Brighton Marina.

There are still a few Stingrays being caught locally with Goring to East Preston producing a few fish. Further west beaches from Climping through to Selsey should also see the odd Stinger show up. Fishing in darkness is the best chance of catching either an Undulate or Thornback Ray with venues worth trying including Hove, Bognor and Pagham.

Lure fishing can be worthwhile at venues with good clarity and there are still good numbers of sizable Bass caught on baits. Schoolies will be caught on worm baits and live baiting can produce some big fish as will using peeler crab. 

As usual Shoreham to Brighton are the venues which produce the best of any local flattie fishing with a mixture of Plaice, Flounders and Sole to worm baits.

Other fish occasionally caught include Dogfish, Silver Eels, Gurnard, Pout and strap Congers in darkness.
