West Sussex Catch Report - 20th September 2026
Good evening, it’s been fishing well locally with a nice variety of species showing from most venues plus there has been some superb Bass caught within the last week and with a good weather forecast predicted for the forthcoming week why not get the rods out and give it ago.
Here are Worthing high tides times for the week ahead:
- Monday 21st September: 07:56 (4.1m), 20:32 (4.1m)
- Tuesday 22nd September: 09:12 (4.5m), 21:32 (4.6m)
- Wednesday 23rd September: 09:59 (5.0m), 22:15 (5.1m)
- Thursday 24th September: 10:38 (5.5m), 22:51 (5.5m)
- Friday 25th September: 11:14 (5.8m), 23:26 (5.8m)
- Saturday 26th September: 11:48 (6.0m)
Another week has passed with mixed weather consisting of rain, wind, cloud and even some sunshine. The water has been colouring up when windy although deeper water venues has seen better clarity.
Shoreham Harbour has produced some very good Bass this week to over 8lb and numerous other decent sized fish. The lower stretches of the local rivers has also seen Bass caught to both baits and lures. Brighton Marina is a noted Bass venue as are the nearby reefs although Bass can show throughout Sussex and successful baits and methods are dependant on the venue fished. Lure fishing will be worthwhile if there is good water clarity.
The odd Codling have been caught and perfect evening tides this coming week should offer the chance of more fish being landed locally. Codling can show randomly although venues such as Seaford, Hove or Pagham could slightly improve your chances of catching one with baits
such a lug and squid worth using when targeting them.
With settled weather predicted along with bigger tides towards the weekend the water clarity should be good which will see a return of species such as Garfish, Mackerel, Scad and Shad. Garfish will be caught from the Pier, Harbour and Marina with Mackerel and Shad likely from the Marina and Harbour. Scad will be caught in darkness when the water is clear. Remember Shad are a protected species and must be returned.
Evening tides should see Squid showing in the right conditions to Squid Jigs with structures such as the Pier, Harbour or Marina worth targeting them ideally with calm and clear water in darkness.
Expect summer species including Black Bream, Mullet, Red Mullet and Gurnards to feature in catches next week with the Harbour and Marina regularly producing the best variety of species. A few Wrasse, Silver Eels, Dogfish and Smoothounds have also been caught recently along with the odd Pout, and it will not be too long before a Whiting makes an appearance.
There have been some large Undulate Rays caught recently along with a few smaller ones with fish baits fished in darkness producing a few fish from the beaches.
The best of the Conger fishing lately has been from the Marina on the east arm with a few fish around the 20lb mark caught. Most venues will produce straps in darkness or in the day when the water is coloured, but a lot of fish are extremely small.
There are some good Sole catches which have been made during the day when the water is dirty and at night to worm baits with the Marina east arm and Shoreham Harbour areas worth trying plus nearby beaches. Flounders and Plaice are also likely to appear along with the odd Dab.
