West Sussex Catch Report - 10th November 2024
Report by David Lewis
Good evening, a shorter than usual report as although plenty of anglers have been venturing out the vast majority have been targeting the Squid which have been showing inshore locally in huge numbers and not only do they make great bait they taste good too but with some big high tides next week hopefully the fish will also make an appearance so why not grab the rods and give it a try.
Here are Worthing high tides times for the week ahead:
- Monday 11th November: 06:44 (5.2m), 19:10 (5.1m)
- Tuesday 12th November: 07:45 (5.6m), 20:09 (5.5m)
- Wednesday 13th November: 08:39 (6.0m), 21:01 (5.8m)
- Thursday 14th November: 09:27 (6.3m), 21:49 (6.2m)
- Friday 15th November: 10:12 (6.5m), 22:36 (6.4m)
- Saturday 16th November: 10:56 (6.6m), 23:24 (6.4m)
Another week where there has been very little change with the weather with dull, cloudy days and light winds. The sea state has been calm for most of the week and the water is very clear especially from the deeper water venues. Next week the weather is similar with light winds predicted and variable from a northerly direction. Big tides and no winds mean the sea will remain very clear for the foreseeable future until the winds switch to southerlies and increase.
The prolonged settled weather with lightish winds and clear seas has meant Squid have moved inshore in vast numbers throughout the region. Brighton Marina west arm has been one of the most popular venues which has produced catches both during the daytime and at night, high tide and low tide. Other venues including Shoreham Harbour and at Newhaven also produce decent catches and most beaches where the water clarity is good with a bit of depth has and is likely to see Squid present. The average Squid size is certainly bigger than the Squids which were showing a month or so ago. Along with the Squid a few bonus Cuttlefish are also being caught and majority are also caught on Squid Jigs.
Some positive news is work is due to commence on repairing Worthing Pier next week, depending on their progress it is hoped it will be partially reopened by the end of the month.
Next week the fishing could vary greatly depending on whether you fish in the daytime or at night with different species likely to show dependant on darkness or light. When the Squid are present it can affect the fishing and may reduce catches.
Anglers fishing during the day could find a few of the summer species still showing with Black Bream, Mullet, Garfish, Wrasse all possible catches with Shoreham or Brighton Marina most likely to see them caught. The big tides could see a few decent Plaice show from Brighton or Hove beaches. This time of year, also sees the occasional Shad caught which are a protected species and needs to be returned.
Fishing during darkness increases your chances of catching some small Congers, Sole, Whiting, Pout, Codling, Dogfish or Rays.
Bass are a possibility both during the day and at night with lure fishing worth trying especially with very good water clarity. Some nice fish continue to be caught from the Marina, Harbour and local rivers.
Flounders have been showing from the River Adur to red rags baits and numbers should slowly increase in the winter when the temperatures drop.
